Great Toys from Our Childhood
Through January 4, 2009

The third floor of the Museum will turn into a mecca for memories and mirth when the next nationally touring exhibition arrives.  From G. I. Joe to Barbie, Cootie to Monopoly, “Kid Stuff: Great Toys from Our Childhood” will spark a bit of nostalgia and flashbacks to the 1950s and 60s.  The exhibit offers playful encounters with classic toys of the last half century and is accompanied by hundreds of illustrations, period advertisements, and vintage commercials.

Visit ten themed exhibit units such as “Look What I Made” and “Can I Try?” showing the fun of Erector sets and Tinker Toys or Etch A Sketch and Mrs. Potato Head.

Discover the toys that resulted from engineering or scientific endeavors gone awry, or others created out of economic necessity or simply for the fun of it.  Find out the stories behind the development of such popular toys as Slinky, the yo-yo, and Barbie dolls.

Try your hand at throwing a Nerf Ball, Hot Wheels racing, yo-yoing, walking a Slinky, operating a Lionel train, playing Twister, building with Lego blocks, watching an ant farm, tossing balsa planes, and having photos taken next to a life-sized G. I. Joe and Barbie. It’s fun for the whole family. Don’t miss it!

Kid Stuff is organized by The Berkshire Museum.
